Frequently Asked Questions

What is Advanced Bodywork?

Advanced Bodywork combines multiple therapeutic techniques (Visceral Manipulation, Craniosacral Biodynamics, Neuromotor) to evaluate how the body's systems work together. Rather than chasing symptoms, the goal is to identify and treat restrictions that may be contributing to pain, dysfunction, or limited movement. Every session is individualized because every body tells a different story.

Is Craniosacral Therapy the same as Reiki?

No. Although both use a gentle touch, they are different approaches with different philosophies and methods.

The CranioSacral Therapy and other manual therapies used at DBT are rooted in osteopathic principles and are based on a detailed understanding of anatomy, physiology, and the relationships between the body's structures and systems. Treatment is guided by a hands-on evaluation and clinical reasoning.

CranioSacral Therapy is just one of several specialized techniques I may incorporate into a session. Every treatment is individualized based on what your body demonstrates during the evaluation.

What conditions do you work with?

Advanced Bodywork may help with many conditions, including:

  • Chronic pain

  • Neck and back pain

  • Headaches and migraines

  • TMJ dysfunction

  • Sciatica

  • Joint pain

  • Sports injuries

  • Post-surgical recovery

  • Scar restrictions

  • Chronic tension

  • Movement limitations

If you're unsure whether your concern is appropriate, feel free to ask.

The Therapeutic Process

Why don't you always work where it hurts?

Pain is often the body's alarm system—not necessarily the source of the problem.

Your body compensates remarkably well. The area that hurts is sometimes working overtime because of an imbalance. During evaluation, I look for these patterns to determine where treatment will be most effective.

Will you explain what you're finding?

Yes.

As we work together, I'll explain findings, why I'm testing certain areas, and how different parts of the body may be connected. Understanding your body helps you become an active participant in your healing.

Why does treatment sometimes seem so gentle?

The body rarely requires force to make meaningful change.

Many restrictions and dysregulated nervous systems respond best to gentile biomechnical techniques that allow tissues and the nervous system to release naturally. Gentle does not mean ineffective.

Your Appointment

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy movement. Depending on the treatment, you may remain fully clothed or be appropriately draped if massage techniques are used.

How long is a session?

Initial sessions are 90 minutes of bodywork and follow up sessions are 60 minutes of bodywork

Do I need a referral?

No referral is necessary.

Should I bring medical records or imaging?

If you have imaging reports, surgical reports, or other relevant medical information, they can be helpful but are not always necessary.

After Your Session

How will I feel afterward?

Everyone responds differently.

Some people feel immediate relief, while others notice gradual changes over the following several days. Occasionally, temporary soreness or fatigue can occur as the body adapts to treatment.

How many sessions will I need?

There isn't a one-size-fits-all answer.

Some concerns improve in just a few visits, while more complex or long-standing issues may require additional care. We'll continually reassess your progress and adjust the treatment plan accordingly.

Will you give me exercises?

If a corrective movement or self-care strategy will help support your progress, I'll teach you what is most beneficial. I prefer to keep recommendations simple and purposeful.
